International Adult Learners' Week 7-11 September 2009

14th July 2009

International Adult Learners’ Week, established by UNESCO resolution in 1999, builds on individual national learning festivals and other activities designed to raise the visibility of adult and lifelong learning.

International Adult Learners’ Week works best as a network of organisations linking national and international activities. The object of international Adult Learners’ Week is to give adult learners stronger rights, develop motivation and highlight opportunities to take part in lifelong learning.

What’s Happening Nationally?

Scotland’s Learning Partnership will look to support local action and recruitment by stimulating media interest and by hosting a few day events during the week.  This year the press and media focus will be stimulated through four major events:

Monday 7th September -LAUNCH EVENT
100 Learners’ Voices for Community radio 11-3.00pm, Radisson Hotel, Edinburgh

Tuesday 8th September Adult Learners’ Award ceremony 6-11pm, Marriot Hotel, Glasgow

Thursday 10th September

Providers lecture, with Edicio de la Torre, President of the Education for Life Foundation, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow 10.30-12.30

In Scotland the week-long campaign seeks to:

•    Support, develop and widen access to adult learning

•    Build on the awareness raised during our national Adult Learners’ Week

•    Support local recruitment by stimulating media interest.
