Annual Providers Lecture- 11/09/09

Strathclyde University: 11th – 12th September 2009, 10:30AM–midnight.

Edicio de La Torre, President, Education for Life Foundation, Philippines

Ed started the Education for Life Foundation (ELF) to help train a new generation of grassroots leaders in the needed shift from the politics of resistance to the politics of participation. ELF combines the Gruntvigian folkehojskole ideas with those of Paolo Freire, and Sikolohiyang Pilipino with Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences.

Ed’s other fields of involvement are agrarian reform, rural electrification, and biodiversity conservation. He’ll tell the story of his reason for taking to his heart the aphorism: Make your learning greater than your experience. He is also an assistant instructor or pelatih of Tetada Kalimasada, based on an Indonesian martial arts practice, ‘renewing my energies for the long haul’ he says.

A truly inspired educator, Ed will be talking to us about the work he does in the Philippines combining his great passion for alternative learning systems with his very interesting and unique learning journey.  The lecture will allow us to free our thinking and begin to plan for the future with renewed enthusiasm.
