Working Together

Going Back to our Roots

Summer’s here at last and Going back to our Roots is proving to be the right theme for our work this year.

Our focus for all three learning campaigns in 2010 is reaching out to those most excluded so put the fun back into Family Learning Week and take a break with a difference during One Hour a Day for Learning. We’ve already had a successful Adult Learners’ Week so make sure you join us this autumn with our programme of events, seminars and training opportunities to celebrate the other two campaigns.

Look out for our programme of events and seminars that focus on the outcomes of CONFINTEA VI.

Entitled Living and Learning for a Viable Future: The Power of Adult Learning, the Sixth International Conference on Adult Education (CONFINTEA VI), was hosted by the Government of Brazil in Belém from 1 to 4 December 2009, and provided an important platform for policy dialogue and advocacy on adult learning and non-formal education at global level.

The conference brought together UNESCO Member States, United Nations agencies, multi- and bi-lateral cooperation agencies, organisations from civil society, the private sector and learners from all world regions. To help focus discussion and find common areas of interest UIL published the first-ever Global Report on Adult Learning and Education (GRALE).

The GRALE is based on 154 National Reports submitted by UNESCO Member States on the state of adult learning and education, five Regional Synthesis Reports and secondary literature. Its purpose is to provide an overview of trends in adult learning and education as well as to identify key challenges, and it does just that.

Join us in September for the first of these sessions and work with us on developing a new way forward for adult learning across Scotland.
